Troop 80 Gets Cranky While Tied Up Speaking Dutch Oven With Wisdom

Dallas at a leisurely Sat A.M. pace

Glad to leave behind the rat race.

Arrive to find we have to leave car

Whole Troop on foot, but it’s not far.

Circle Ten First Aid class said it all;

Neckerchief slide collection on wall.

Walking by the Camp Wisdom display,

Following the trailer, one car in, no delay.

Justin rides with trailer toting car,

“I am telling Dad how to drive!”

Backing, the trailer is all ajar,

Dad stops trailer, Troop gets by alive.

Never left town, green oasis no doubt

Hillcrest site, camping it was not about.

Electricity under pavilion‘s roof was good,

Board games, computers, knots understood.

14 new Troop neckerchiefs were given,

Seven knots in two minutes, high livin’.

Ready to take those tie downs into life,

Tied right first time, avoid lots of strife.

Wiffle batt baseball game was a fight,

Good swing, good contact, makes it right.

Ready for Summer Camp wiffle fights,

And Camp Constantin bragging rights.

Scout bandits raid the Pop Tart stash,

No sandwich takers doing a 50 yard dash.

Filling up on the wrong kind of food,

But pizza later changed that attitude.

Cobblers are apple, peach & cherry?

Finished hand crank ice cream? Scary.

Who would have figured they’d be up,

In time to load each into a waiting cup?

Adam/Field loaded up the cobbler oven

Then served it without pushin’ or shovin.

Trent/Peter kept the ice crank turning,

Even though tastebuds were yearning.

Crayton switches the Troop’s gears,

From campfire gloom to happy cheers.

Introducing skits in quick progression,

Songs began a crackling fire transition.

As snow damaged cedar blazed on,

Scouts retired to tents with a yawn.

Pesky Whip-poor-will was flushed,

Noisy but happy bird was shushed.

Still watching the sky for rain,

Gentle breeze, stars, all our gain.

Munching strawberries, blazing sun,

“Pack it up!” We’re under the gun.

Blue Ghost Patrol retires for a year,

Before you know it, cooking is here.

Next camp out, back to Patrol food,

New cooks, new menus, new mood.

Sweeping the latrines, check for trash,

Quality check, we don’t do it for cash.

Final event is field chapel in a tree grove,

Finding God’s leadership, we all strove.

Hear story about Lord Baden-Powell

God in life, you won’t throw in the towel.

Singing, pondering “Be Thou My Vision,”

Decide we can surely use the supervision.

Stop, Start and Continue lively discussion,

“Keep ice cream,” no heat repercussion.

“Follow directions,” and “Be quiet early.”

What is the opposite of no? It’s “Surely!”

Taking the Whataburger by storm,

Juke box listening, outside the norm.

Celebrating life and the summer to come,

Glad to be a Scout, a friend and then some.
